Malaysia is not a dirt road country as some people may think; they actually have an extensive road that does have connections to all of the major cities and towns that are located west of the cost of the Peninsular Malaysia. The Malaysian Expressway actually is about 1,192 kilometers which is 740 miles long. It connects the major cities of Klang Valley, Johor Bahru and Penang. The major expressway which is the North and South Expressway runs from the northern end to the southern end of the Peninsular Malaysia at Bukit Kayu Hitam and Johor Naru. This expressway not only has major connections to the big cities it also is part of the Asian Highway Network that has connections into Thailand and Singapore.
The opposite is true in the eastern coast of the Peninsular, the roads are not really developed and many of those roads are actually curved roads that go through the mountains. These roads are unsealed and pretty much gravel roads. Because of the conditions of these roads many travelers have used rivers as the main way to get around.
There is train service in West Malaysia which is operated by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu which is also known as the Malaysian Railways. These railways connect to major cities and towns all along the Peninsular which includes Singapore. There is a shorter railway system that is run by North Borneo Railways but their cargo is mainly freight not so much people.
Malaysia also has a few airports that are first rate airports. There is the Kuala Lumpor International Airport in Sepang, Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang, the Kuching International Airport and the Langkawi International Airports. All of these airports have international as well as domestic flights. If you are looking just for a small airport maybe to take you to one town to another then you can try these airports as well, the airstrips in Sabah and Sarawak.
There are seaports also available for travel, there are major seaports located in Tanjong Kidurong, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Kuantan, Pasir Gudang, Tanjung Pelepas, Penang, Port Klang, Sandakan and Tawau. You can get to one port to another the roads besides the expressway may be too underdeveloped for someone who isn’t used to it to travel by.
The telecommunications service that Malaysia provides on the Peninsular is microwave radio delay. The international telecommunications are given by submarines cables and satellite. One of the largest communications companies in Malaysia is Telekom Malaysia Berhad they provide services and products as was well as mobile service and dial up. They offer Internet Broadband access too. But not too many people actually use it a few years ago only 0.85 percent which equals to 218,004 people in Malaysia used the broadband. The number rose 5 percent in 2006 and is expected to double to 10 percent growth in 2008. Price may be a factor when people were asked why they aren’t using it. Maybe if the companies lowered the prices more people besides business would use it.
